On our Doorstep…

Sam Maguire
Dunmanway is the home town of the famous War of Independence hero and GAA icon whose name is today immortalised in the prestigious Sam Maguire Cup and whose birthplace lies only 6km north of the town.  There is a statue of Sam in the town’s main square and he is buried in the cemetery adjoining St. Mary’s Church.

Recreation
Dunmanway’s town park has been home to an indoor heated swimming pool for many years, with the 25 metre pool being the only public swimming pool in the West Cork area.  It also has a Children’s recreation area along with tennis courts and is adjoined by an 18 hole pitch and putt course.  A new state of the art Swimming Complex including toddler’s pool, hydrotherapy pool, gym, sauna and steam room is due to open in the very near future.
